Professional Programme

The Professional Programme of the EuroPharm Forum is set up in seven programme areas, all in operation and all conducted by the national member associations through their community pharmacies. Each programme area reflects a WHO priority and seeks to involve pharmacists in the WHO efforts to improve patient care and chronic disease management and support health promotion and well-being through lifestyle counselling services.

The areas of the Professional Programme are:
  • Safe Medication Practices
  • Chronic Diseases
  • Prevention of Non-communicable Diseases
  • Communicable Diseases
  • Quality
  • Palliative Care
  • Education
In 2010, the EuroPharm Forum Executive Committee will give special attention to five working groups dealing with:
  • Education
  • Mental Health
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Quality
  • Safe and Effective Use of Medicines

Roles and responsibilities

The Working Group Members are representatives of those member associations preoccupied with implementing the professional service(s) being developed within the Group. A Working Group Moderator has been appointed to each Group with the aim of motivating and stimulating the work and keeping the process on track.

In addition, an Executive Committee member has been appointed to each programme area to lead and support the Working Group Moderators and to report on the progress to the General Assembly of the Forum.

Objectives

The objectives of the Professional Programme are to develop and share pharmacy practice models – and tools to support the implementation of them models – in order to improve pharmacist performance. An additional element of the Programme is documentation of the impact of the services.

Several model programmes have been developed within the Forum. They include basic guidelines for adaptation to specific conditions and local languages by the national pharmaceutical associations. See Publication for examples.
